The seed that grew

Fourteen years ago, five year old Joseph was living on the streets. Both parents were lost in the aids epidemic. He was on his own like so many of the other Ugandan children, also victims of this devastating epidemic.  He had no shelter, and no one to care for him, or to feed him.   Fr. Charles returned to his native Uganda, after serving many communities in the United States, and found Joseph wandering; alone, scared and hungry.

From this simple beginning of Joseph’s story, a seed was planted in Father’s heart.  With his prayers, hard work, and the blessing of generous financial supporters, the seed became a dream to care for these destitute children.  And the dream became the Home of the Holy Angels.  As God’s grace touched even more hearts, this seed has grown to include Sts. William and Helen Catholic Secondary and Vocational School that will help make Joseph’s dream of becoming a teacher a reality.

So many of the children came through these doors with sad faces and few words. The smiles you now see, are a beautiful reflection of God’s grace and your love.

The seeds of hope have  produced great strength of character in the children. Like Joseph, they also have dreams – dreams to one day become a nurse, to be a midwife, to attend Seminary School, to go to University, and to attend Medical School. They want to serve their community, to return to their village, and to share the knowledge and the love that you have given to them.

A message from Fr. Charles

My dearest friends of the children,

We joyfully received seeds sent by a generous donor and have planted them in anticipation of a bountiful harvest!

Planting these seeds will not only teach the children the joy of learning new skills, but they’ll provide food to nurture both The Home of the Holy Angels and the Sts. William and Helen school children. They serve as a natural example of faith, of things not seen, yet believed.  Each seed is a living lesson for the children of what only our loving God can create

As we welcome Spring’s return and celebrate the return of many of our children, we thank God for blessing them during these difficult times.  And we are so grateful that we have been able to open our new secondary and vocational school, though as of yet, it is not fully outfitted to meet all the children’s needs.

We humbly thank all of you for your unwavering prayers, and faithful contributions which have helped to sustain our operations, as we face the challenges of ever changing world circumstances.

We also wish to gratefully acknowledge Amadea Schenk and Sarah Dixon of Unified Sign & Design for graciously offering their time and talents in the design of our new school’s logo.  We have been so richly blessed by God’s grace, and so many generous contributors.

The children and I continue to pray for you daily.  They wish you the joy that you have given to them through your prayers and caring.

May you find seeds of hope, and the peace that passes all understanding in Christ Jesus,

Fr. Charles Nabwana
